What type of medicine does the provider practice?
General practitioner, illness, dermatology, OB/GYN, health screenings

Would you recommend the provider to others?
Yes

Why did you see this provider?
I was looking into having mole removal

Was the provider affordable?
Yes, for me the provider was affordable. I do not have insurance and they did not ask me to pay for the first visit, where some moles were removed or an office fee.  On the second visit, i was also not charged for an office visit but was charged for the mole removal.

Please describe your experience with the provider:
What struck me about the Dr. was that he was made eye contact when i was talking and listened to my descriptions of my moles and concerns without seeming anxious to move on.  He also shared personal stories upon my asking him about his day and also was careful about my body and letting me know how he was going to navigate the gown and get access to my moles.  He shared information with me about moles and what may be problematic and what is not.

Please describe your experience with the provider’s support staff:
I think Doctor’s offices are dismal places, that said, i was treated as a number in the waiting room.  Upon being weighed and led to my room, the non-warm manner but not cold manner of the nurse was familiar and normal to me. It was fine.

Please describe the accessibility of the practice for you:
It was far for me to travel, especially in the winter and difficult to navigate by bus (2 busses to get there).  The layout was fine, the bathroom i used was a single stall. I don’t remember thinking about mobility impairments at the time, the halls may have been narrow.

Why did you see this provider?
Routine STD/HIV testing

Was the provider affordable?
The clinic provides free STD and HIV screenings.  If a medication is prescribed, the patient has to pay for the prescription to be filled.

Please describe your experience with the provider:
The atmosphere overall is not especially welcoming, and the service is slow, but as long as an HIV horror story video is not playing on a loop in the waiting room, it’s easy to bring a book and get through it.

Please describe your experience with the provider’s support staff:
The nurses and staff are, for the most part, respectful and informed.

Please describe the accessibility of the practice for you:
The building is on the bus line, located in Oakland, and is pretty easy to get to by bicycle as well.  Parking is probably an issue for motorists, as there are various misspelled warnings against parking in the adjacent Arby’s restaurant lot.

They helped me sign up for the SelectPlan for women and accepted it, plus they helped me to get as many benefits from it as I could. When I started to have insurance again, they accepted my Blue Cross / Blue Shield PPO with no issues.

Please describe your experience with the provider:
Although there is a rotating staff and I saw a different person each time, it was a much more comfortable and relaxed environment than I had experienced with private OB/GYN practitioners. I felt open to discuss any questions and concerns I had, and was always answered openly, honestly, and in detail.

Receptionists were kind and helpful for scheduling.

General/Gynecological

Would you recommend this provider to others?
Yes

Why did you see this provider?
Gynecological

Was the provider affordable?
this is a service i pay for with my tuition so it is very affordable for students regardless of insurance (around $65 a semester for as many visits as you want i believe), but not available for people who are not students at Pitt.

Please describe your experience with the provider:
Dr. Greenwald was very knowledgeable about what was going on with me and also very reassuring. she was comforting and listened to what i needed to share. she was gave me her business card and told me i could contact her anytime if i had any more needs – something that i haven’t had happen before at the student health clinic (though everyone has always been very sweet and helpful). this was very good for me since i tend to worry…

Please describe your experience with the support staff:
the nurse who checked me in was also kind. there was no receptionist interaction since i used a card to swipe myself in.

Please describe how accessible the practice was for you:
for me, it was great. on public transit lines and there is bike parking. the restrooms in the hall are gendered and i think the ones inside the clinic are, too. bummer. plus, i’m not sure how accessible it is for people in wheelchairs. i think there is enough space to move around but i feel pretty confident the tables are not easily or at all accessed by people with more severe impairments.

Is this provider especially good with certain populations?
students?

Additional Information:
overall, it was a very pleasant, reassuring experience.
